Steps Calculator: Kilometers and Calories

Enter your step count, height, and weight — the calculator will estimate your stride length, distance walked, time, and calories burned.

How it's calculated

Stride length is about 41.5% of height for men and 41.3% for women. Distance = steps × stride length. Calories are based on the Compendium of Physical Activities: walking at about 5 km/h is 3.5 MET, or 3.5 kcal per 1 kg of body weight per hour. Time = distance ÷ 4.8 km/h.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many kilometers is 10,000 steps?

With a height of 170 cm, stride length is about 70 cm, which makes 10,000 steps roughly 7 km.

How many calories do 10,000 steps burn?

Around 300–400 kcal for a 70 kg person, depending on pace and height.

How many steps a day should you take?

Major studies show that mortality risk decreases as daily step count increases up to about 7,000–10,000 steps per day. Start with your usual baseline and add 1,000.

This is an estimate: actual stride length and calorie burn depend on your pace, footwear, and terrain.
